Since the beginning of May FLUCA – Austrian Cultural Pavilion – a collaboration of Austrian Embassy in Sofia and Open Arts Foundation, is on its traditional place at Otets Paisiy str., ready to officially start season 2019 – a culmination for the project, which has prepared a rich program of art events, performances, presentations and parties for the audience and will be a highlight in the program of Plovdiv - European Capital of Culture 2019. The program is compiled by Boris Kostadinov - curator working between Vienna, Berlin and Sofia. Guest curator of the special program for August is Ursula Maria Probst – curator from Vienna.
FLUCA Official Opening on the 16th of May
The official season opening of FLUCA is on the 16th of May (Thursday) with an exhibition of the Аustrian artist Olivier Hoelzl, which the artist is preparing on site in Plovdiv since the beginning of the month. He is working in the roma neighbourhood Stolipinovo and based on his interaction with locals, material world and the surrounding architecture, he will present his conclusions about the social reality in the form of video works and through his unique stencils. The presentation will take place at 18:30 in FLUCA and special guest to the event will be Mr. Konstantin Saupe, deputy head of mission in the Austrian Embassy Sofia.
After the opening the exhibition can be seen in the open hours of FLUCA – Tue. – Sat., 16:00-20:00.
Right after the season opening, in the evening on the 17th will be the first official party in the program of FLUCA for 2019, where Olivier Hoelzl will play a mix of groovy tracks for the FLUCA audience.
Events in MAY
On the 24th of May FLUCA will present the newest and most extraordinary guide to Plovidv - Plovdiv Fantasy Guide. The authors from Maina Town will tell us more about the world of the comic-guide. The evening will continue with Secret Vibes - a specially prepared party from the creators of the guide. This will be the first of official presentations at FLUCA of projects and events, created by Municipal Foundation Plovdiv 2019 for the program of Plovdiv-European Capital of Culture 2019.
At the end of May – on the 29th (Wednesday) on the stage of FLUCA will be presented the Bulgarian participation at the most exciting event in the art world for this year – the 58th edition of the International Art Biennale in Venice. Vera Mlechevska - curator of the Bulgarian National Pavilion will give insight into interesting details about the Bulgarian participation, which presents How We Live via works of the artists Rada Boukova and Lazar Lyutakov .
