SUNDAY LECTURES

AN INTRODUCTION TO CONTEMPORARY ART

“An introduction to contemporary art” is an educational platform initiated in 2011 by Open Arts Foundation and Sariev Gallery and developed together with curators and art historians and supported by America for Bulgaria Foundation. All events are run at different structural stages – a specific educational course, open lectures, discussions with artists, etc. The necessity to generate the context of Bulgarian contemporary art motivated the concept for “An introduction to contemporary art”.

The platform’s first stage in 2011 was an educational course held at The Warehouse /+/, Sofia, contributing with theoretical knowledge and introducing into the details, terminology and specificity of contemporary art. The forthcoming event in the spring of 2012 is “Talks with artists” at Sofia City Art Gallery and “Sunday Lectures” at Vivacom Art Hall. The last talk from this platform will be held during the Night of Museums and Galleries – Plovdiv.

SUNDAY LECTURES – AN INTRODUCTION TO CONTEMPORARY ART

The Sunday Lectures “An introduction to contemporary art” are a continuation of the educational course which started in 2011 structured as a group of thematic sessions with four lectures each. The course developed a few basic features of seeing and understanding contemporary art for amateurs, fans, collectors and non-professionals. The sessions offered basic knowledge of the most important trends in contemporary art and its encyclopaedic examples and institutions. The theoretical part is complemented with rich illustrative material. In 2012 the SUNDAY LECTURES – AN INTRODUCTION TO CONTEMPORARY ART are developed in partnership with Vivacom Fund and will be held at Vivacom Art Hall with free entrance.

SUNDAY LECTURES – AN INTRODUCTION TO CONTEMPORARY ART will present two thematic sessions: “Themes and media in contemporary art” hosted by Vera Mlechevska andn“The contemporary art in Bulgaria” hosted by Vessela Nozharova. Each session is comprised of four lectures held on Sundays from 15:00 to 19:00h. At the end of each lecture will be given time for a discussion on the presented issues with the participants in the course.
