FLUCA – Austrian Cultural Pavilion Season 2019

Season 2019 is a culmination for the project with a rich program of art events, performances, presentations and parties for the audience and is a highlight in the program of Plovdiv – European Capital of Culture 2019.

During its fourth  season 2019, FLUCA presented over 40 various events, which took place entirely in Plovdiv as part of the official programme of "Plovdiv–European Capital of Culture 2019". The project invited and presented to the Plovdivian audience over 25 international exhibitions and artistic projects by artists and curators from Bulgaria, Austria, Germany, USA, and Portugal, who gained distinction on the international stage with their work in the field of modern art. At the head of the mobile art Platform team in the role of artistic director for the second consecutive year was Boris Kostadinov, a curator and art critic based in Vienna and Berlin.

Highlights in the programme of the pavilion included the opening exhibition of macro-stencils by Olivier Hölzl, the exhibition FORNOTECA by Anton Stoyanov, the presentation of the Bulgarian pavilion at the Venice Biennale by Lachezar Boyadzhiev,  the exhibition "In and Out of the EU" by Sandra Radkovic, the exhibition "Tionghoa / Chinese Background" by Katharina Swoboda, the exhibition "Gossip Column" by Markus Krottendorfer, the exhibition and performance presenting the project "IN-BETWEEN" by Anais Horn, as well as the projects for intervention in urban environment "Habitat" and "Cognitive Sciences" by Bernhard Wolf. Part of the mobile scene programme were the presentations of 6 local projects and initiatives, including the presentation of the most Plovdivian comic book – the "Plovdiv Fantasy Guide". In 2019, a party programme for the music fans was presented at the FLUCA pavilion, which included participation of more than 10 Bulgarian and international DJs, among which were the Austrian DJ Lena Ka as well as Bulgarian Ge Ra with a compilation of rock'n'roll tracks. FLUCA was actively involved in the programme of the NIGHT/Plovdiv 2019 festival and presented the opening of an exhibition, lectures by international curators, and a party programme on the three festival nights with Ebbessen, jOObba and Julieta Intergalactica.
