Night of Museums and Galleries 2013

For the second time in its history, the Plovdiv Night of Museums and Galleries was organized over the course of two days, 20 and 21 September, 2013.

In the 9th edition of the Plovdiv Night of Museums and Galleries the total number of participants is 68, respectively: "Museums and galleries" - 25, "Culture and Club" - 23, "City and public spaces" - 20. According to the data of museums, galleries and other participants, the visitors were about 60,000. The preparation of the events lasted 4 months, and the implementation itself 6, it was carried out with the help of 8 interns and 23 volunteers.  41 of all participating projects were financially supported by the Special Projects Fund, which was launched for the first time by the organizers.

Preparation for the festival started at the beginning of 2013, when the Open Arts Foundation announcing the appointment of Mr. Victor Yankov to the newly created position of festival director of the Plovdiv Night of Museums and Galleries. The festival’s new management was committed to developing Plovdiv’s cultural scene by presenting quality new art and fostering relations between artists, institutions and the public. In 2013, the Open Arts Foundation has also invited the America for Bulgaria Foundation to become co-organizer of the Plovdiv Night of Museums and Galleries. By accepting the invitation, the America for Bulgaria Foundation has agreed to present its own cultural program within the Night’s framework, which will feature content from the festivals and initiatives it traditionally supports.

Building on its Museums Fund initiative of 2012, the Open Arts Foundation, jointly with the America for Bulgaria Foundation and the Municipality of Plovdiv, has set up a special projects fund to support organizations willing to develop original content for the Plovdiv Night of Museums and Galleries. Following clear and transparent selection criteria, it has now provided funding for a total of 38 projects.

For the second time in its history, the Plovdiv Night of Museums and Galleries will be organized over the course of two days, Friday and Saturday, 20 and 21 September. The Museums & Galleries Program took place on Friday, 20 September, featuring original projects produced by 26 private and public museums and galleries. A total of 23 cultural institutes, bookshops, informal art spaces and clubs took part in the Culture & Club Program, which was organized on Saturday, 21 September. The 20 projects in the City & Public Spaces Program took place on both festival days in selected locations across Plovdiv. The main program on both evenings was open at 7:00 p.m. and closed at 1.00 a.m., with a children’s program from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. in some of the locations.

The blog of the Plovdiv Night of Museums and Galleries has regularly published articles about forthcoming events and projects, as well as interviews with artists, festival partners and friends, and visitors’ information on Plovdiv since the middle of July. It can be found at http://night.bg/blog.

Visitors were able to access the program of the Plovdiv Night of Museums and Galleries at http://night.bg from the beginning of September, as well as in the guidebook and map, which was distributed freely in Plovdiv and Sofia.

The Info Kiosk of the Plovdiv Night of Museums and Galleries will once again be located in Stanislav Dospevsky St. (across from the Municipal Art Gallery), offering detailed information about the festival’s program from 16 September until the early hours on 22 September. It has been designed by the young architects from the Plovdiv-based Studio 8 ½.

NIGHT/Plovdiv 2013 had a new vision and logo, developed by Studio Punkt, based on the idea of attentive looking.
